The Revelation of the Glory... What is the sanctuary [1844]. Part 31

14/05/20

The misunderstanding of the sanctuary message in October 22 1844 led to the great disappointment of the faithful but strengthened them to enter by faith into a Most Holy experience with Jesus, while in contrast there was a rejection of the insincere protestants who continued to offer their useless prayers in the apartment without the Glory. As we know that history repeats, we now today in 2020 also need to be in the Most Holy apartment by faith together with our Redeemer who is soon to stand up (see Daniel 12:1), are we in danger of coming to this sacred apartment with fires of our own kindling and be consumed? The word sanctuary according to Noah Webster dictionary can also mean "A place of protection... shelter". The  Lord is indeed our Rock in Him we hide, a shelter in the time of storm. We are refugees from spiritual Egypt (athiesim) and our great deliverer is nourishing us in this wilderness as we journey to heavenly Canaan. Why has God delivered us from bondage and taking us in this wilderness experience? Today we will find out that God desires to make us a 'just people' and the wilderness experience is to teach us to live by faith in Him whose way is in the sanctuary.

Our scripture reading is taken from Deuteronomy 8:1-4 "All the commandments which I command thee this day shall ye observe to do, that ye may live, and multiply, and go in and possess the land which the LORD sware unto your fathers. And thou shalt remember all the way which the LORD thy God led thee these forty years in the wilderness, to humble thee, and to prove thee, to know what was in thine heart, whether thou wouldest keep his commandments, or no. And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD doth man live".

In order to teach Israel about His love towards them and the purpose of delivering them from unbelief and bondage, God directed the people to make a visible sanctuary which was a shadow of the invisible heavenly sanctuary. "And let them make me a sanctuary; that I may dwell among them". Exodus 25:8

The question, What is the sanctuary? is clearly answered in the Scriptures. The term “sanctuary,” as used in the Bible, refers, first, to the tabernacle built by Moses, as a pattern of heavenly things; and, secondly, to the “true tabernacle” in heaven, to which the earthly sanctuary pointed. At the death of Christ the typical service ended. The “true tabernacle” in heaven is the sanctuary of the new covenant. And as the prophecy of Daniel 8:14 is fulfilled in this dispensation, the sanctuary to which it refers must be the sanctuary of the new covenant. At the termination of the 2300 days, in 1844, there had been no sanctuary on earth for many centuries. Thus the prophecy, “Unto two thousand and three hundred days; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed,” unquestionably points to the sanctuary in heaven.  - CIHS 94.2

Although they could have entered the promise land in few days than forty years, their "wilderness wandering was not only ordained as a judgment upon the rebels and murmurers, but it was to serve as a discipline for the rising generation, preparatory to their entrance into the Promised Land".  - PP 407.1

Advancement in Christian experience is characterized by increasing humility, as the result of increasing knowledge. Everyone who is united to Christ will depart from all iniquity. I tell you, in the fear of God, I have been shown that many of you will fail of everlasting life because you are building your hopes of heaven on a false foundation. God is leaving you to yourselves, “to humble thee, and to prove thee, to know what was in thine heart.” You have neglected the Scriptures. You despise and reject the testimonies because they reprove your darling sins and disturb your self-complacency. When Christ is cherished in the heart, His likeness will be revealed in the life. Humility will reign where pride was once predominant. Submission, meekness, patience, will soften down the rugged features of a naturally perverse, impetuous disposition. Love to Jesus will be manifested in love to His people. It is not fitful, not spasmodic, but calm and deep and strong. The life of the Christian will be divested of all pretense, free from all affectation, artifice, and falsehood. It is earnest, true, sublime. Christ speaks in every word. He is seen in every deed. The life is radiant with the light of an indwelling Saviour. In converse with God and in happy contemplation of heavenly things the soul is preparing for heaven and laboring to gather other souls into the fold of Christ. Our Saviour is able and willing to do for us more than we can ask or even think.  - 5T 49.2

Through vital connection with Christ, the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven will be unfolded, and according to your capacity to receive, the Lord will bless you, if you are willing and obedient. But the young Christian may often be brought into strait places, and into trying circumstances, as were the children of Israel. Of old the Lord brought his people into these trying places that he might finally bring them blessing. He says: “And thou shalt remember all the way which the Lord thy God led thee these forty years in the wilderness, to humble thee, and to prove thee, to know what was in thine heart, whether thou wouldest keep his commandments, or no.” God knew what was in the hearts of his people before he brought trial upon them; but they were ignorant of the condition of their own hearts. Under trial and test their deficiencies were made manifest, and they felt indeed that they had not understood themselves. But the fierce flames of trial and temptation did not consume them, but rather worked for their purification and refinement, and aided them in the development of Christlike character.  - ST April 3, 1893
